Cannonball Attracts over 20,000 to Tullamore

15th September 2014

Raising Money for Charity and Having Fun

Tullamore played host to the Cannonball finish line on Sunday attracting over 20,000 people to line the streets in a supercar frenzy.

The local organisers had the foresight to build a festival around the Cannonball event and the community provided huge support to pull it off. The festival was kicked off on Saturday evening with traditional events in the Market Square area, including old style threshing, vintage cars, trucks and tractors, live music and kids entertainment. Sunday kicked off with the main event for many, the Eddie Rocket's Soap Box Derby which attracted thousands to High Street for an eye catching spectacle. Live music and kids funfair entertained in O'Connor Square and street performers awed the crowds.

The spend in the town over the weekend is estimated at over €750,000 and it is hoped to develop the Soap Box concept in the years ahead.
