Tullamore Chamber calls for Additional Supports for the Offaly Business

Tullamore Chamber shares the anger, frustration and disappointment at the speed at which the measures were brought-in.  We have gone from low-incidence to a lock-down in a very short space of time. Tourism and Hospitality continue to bear the burden regardless of how much has already been spent on workplace changes and PPE. There is a fear of an extension to restrictions and a fear or hospitality taking the hit every time there is a spike in COVID cases.

President Roger Guiney said “We understand the virus doesn’t discriminate, however we need to exit the restrictions as soon as possible. The damage to our reputation as a destination and our brands needs to be minimised. In addition, the last thing we want is for our products to be removed from supermarket shelves. The key message is that most workplaces are working largely as normal producing and shipping product.”

“The Restart Plus grant, Extended Wages Subsidy scheme and Rates waiver are most welcome. In addition, the Chamber has met with Tániste Leo Varadkar and called for further supports from Government including enhanced testing, extension of the existing wage subsidy scheme for a period of time for Offaly and it’s neighbours and access to cash for affected business with on-going bank moratoriums.”
