Business Incentive Grants

8th March 2014

Rate grant for vacant town centre units

The scheme was drawn up by the council in conjunction with Tullamore Working Group and Tullamore Chamber of Commerce.

It aims to encourage and facilitate occupation of vacant units in the town centre.

The scheme allows for payment of grants to qualifying new occupiers of qualifying properties in the town centre, thereby reducing start up costs for new commercial enterprises.

The grants payable are equivalent of 60% of commercial rates demand in Year 1 of occupation; 40% in Year 2 and 50% in Year 3.
There are certain qualifying conditions for the property/unit, one of the conditions being that the vacant unit must hold a certificate of street worthiness issued by Tullamore Town Council.
This certificate will be issued to landlords of vacant properties that are maintained to an acceptable standard during period of vacancy.

The property must also be located within the designated area as defined in the scheme, and must be vacant for at least six months.

There are certain uses that are exempt from the scheme such as takeaways, betting offices & night clubs/public houses.
