Chamber Calls for Meeting with Minister Bruton

24th April 2015

Job Loss Announcement at GeneMedix Further Blow to Local Ecnonomy

Tullamore was saddened with the announcement of job losses in Gene Medix and the closure of the plant in the IDA Business & Technology Park, Tullamore.

Tullamore & District Chamber President, Joe Fennell, stated ‘The 15th May will be a black day for the workers and the Tullamore community with the loss of these jobs which signals yet another blow to the local economy. Following our recent executive meeting with local Fine Gael T.D. Marcella Corcoran Kennedy, the Chamber emphasised the lack of jobs coming to Tullamore.’

At the meeting of the Tullamore Chamber and the Fine Gael T.D., Mr. Fennell called on Minister Richard Bruton, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation to come to Tullamore and explain what his Regional Jobs policy means for Tullamore & Offaly. ‘The Tullamore Chamber are calling on the Minister and Government to do more to ensure that the IDA attracts Foreign Direct Investment into County Offaly with priority given to Tullamore. We are fed up with just repeated hollow words - we need action now and again call on Minister Bruton to visit Tullamore as a priority,’ stated Mr. Fennell.
